Courses

Learning English can be fun! With English Afloat you’ll do a lot more than sit in a classroom studying grammar. The courses are aimed at people who can already communicate in English but who wish to improve their knowledge of the language and the country. No beginners please.

We teach in very small groups. A maximum of nine students are taught by two experienced and qualified Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).
Courses usually start on a Sunday afternoon and finish on Saturday 2 weeks later.

You should arrive by 5pm on the first day and the course will finish after breakfast 13 days later. There are 18 teaching sessions of 90 minutes, and while one group is having lessons, the other students are driving the boat, working the locks, chatting or doing private study.

We visit various towns and villages along the way and there is plenty of time for sight-seeing and practising your English. We generally stop cruising at about 7pm and moor near a traditional English pub. Musical instruments are very welcome.

We provide a cooked breakfast, a light lunch and the main meal of the day is in the evening after mooring. The meals are prepared on board with fresh produce where available.

Vegetarians are very welcome and special dietary requirements can usually be catered for – please mention when booking.
